From Survival to Overflow
Thursday Jan 11, 2024
Thursday Jan 11, 2024
Coach Janet believes that the challenges of our past and the present necessities of life can keep us in survival mode. So, we have to be intentional about moving past surviving into thriving.
She picked up messages about her value and worth that made it difficult for us to accept herself as she is. As a survivor of childhood trauma, including abandonment, emotional abuse, and sexual abuse and assault, the message she internalized from that early developmental trauma was that it was not okay to be herself because she was “unacceptable” and “bad.” The overwhelming inner-critic that developed produced unrealistic self-expectations, false responsibility, and overwork. That same inner-critic convinced her to hide herself. Since it took most of her mental, emotional, and physical energy just to get through each day, she didn’t have much energy left to focus on who she really was and how to bring more of herself to her everyday life, interactions, and experiences. She was in survival mode.
But... To Coach Janet, thriving means being WHO God created us to be and letting everything else flow out of that. That is living in Overflow.

In The Realm Of Peace, Stress Finds No Lease
Thursday Dec 28, 2023
Thursday Dec 28, 2023
As we are ending 2023, many of us plan for the new year, new me. We look forward to setting new goals, dreams, aspirations and even new focal point. We hope to wipe our plate clean of all the draining, hard stressors that has caused us pain. To look forward to something new is not a bad thing, but have we considered looking at the stressors not as something to toss or forget but to help us look at what areas in our heart and life do we need to realign and refocus to build a healthy foundation to alleviate the stress. Many times, we can be the source of our stress by carrying unnecessary burdens or attempting to control something that is out of our control or just wasn’t for us to fix. By us not acknowledging it or calling it out, we attempt to make a new foundation over shaky ground. Let’s discuss what it means to face the root of stress to create a firm ground to flourish and thrive in and on a new foundation into the new year.
“Therapy is more about building new associations, making new, healthier default pathways. It is almost as if therapy is taking your two-lane dirt road and building a four-lane freeway alongside it. The old road stays, but you don’t use it much anymore. Therapy is building a better alternative, a new default. And that takes repetition, and time, honestly, it works best if someone understands how the brain changes. This is why understanding how trauma impacts our health is essential for everyone.” ~ Dr. Bruce Perry
